The Y Generation and Gamecity – Respect and Loyalty best describes the relationship here.

The two teams can’t wait to release their new project – an EP describing the thoughts,feelings and actions of the young people in the City of Cape Town – the project was slated to debut earlier this year but pushed back several times .The name; Young and the City.

With Gamecity studios being Youngsta’s first home to record since he started out in the scene, producer Chrysto-Meth and Lyricist Youngsta’s respective skills grew at a similar pace,meaning they’ve really grown up in this music together. They’ve always had an understanding and shared the same vision on where they would like to see the Cape Town city, This culminated in the hit Song “Salute Ya” which was no.1 for 5 weeks on the GHFM hip hop charts. Safe to say when Youngsta and Chrysto-Meth get in the studio they make hits.

“This EP is the best way to prove my point to everybody that Cape Town got the talent, not only that other city,” Ericthe1 says, opening up the boot of his vehicle displaying a box of tapes in. “Gamecity is Cape Town and this city’s in our veins and Youngsta articulates it well.”

Idea for the track “Reaching So High” originated on 22 August ’12(2 weeks ago), 5 days later it got released on Youngsta’s 21 Y?rs Ahead Of Time EP dropped on the 27th, 4 days after that The Y Generation hosted an event at Zouke Bar and footage was shot after Youngsta’s performance at their #TripleThreat event the 1st Sept 2012. Using one camera and having one shot to get this video done was the risk The Y Generation took knowing that shooting a video for live performances is pretty hard to get on par especially with all the surrounding factors in a club at that hour, the guys were adamant to do it and show what they could come out with….

Initially he was to drop 1 EXCLUSIVE track but after feeling extremely inspired by the two beats he had received by producers, J-Beats and Dale Costa Fortune he immediately made the decision to drop a 7 track Free Online EP which consisted of 2 Original beats and 5 instrumental beats by TNGHT, Odd Future, Young Balla and Q.L. This now meant he only had 5 days to complete the entire project as deadline was Monday.

The Wednesday, he completed writing the entire EP, Red Bull Studio Cape Town hosted the project, Thursday was studio but due to unforeseen reasons recording could not take place, putting on more pressure to reach deadline. Friday came, Youngsta and The Y Generation pulled up to the studio and completed the entire recording process in 4 hours.

As Sunday was the day all tracks, artwork, visual footage and paperwork had to be done, Saturday turned into a 20 hour day ending at 5am on Sunday 26 August 2012. Having a scheduled Video and Photo-shoot with GameCity Productions the Saturday morning to late afternoon had stole more hours out the project, more pressure arose now.

Eventually Youngsta and the team pulled up to the Redbull Studio at 7pm the evening, having to complete the Mix and Mastering, Brandon Court aka The Muffinman was in the sound engineering seat for the entire project. The Redbull Studio head engineer, Steve Elsworth aka Audiophile 021 had left The Muffinman in charge of the entire project knowing he was capable of completing something of this magnitude by himself as Steve was Brandon’s lecturer 3 years ago at Cape Audio College and knowing The Muffinman had pretty much experience in playing a vital role in Youngsta‘s mix and mastering of his past 24 Mixtapes.

After 2 RedBull trays and a long 2 days of work, the project was finally completed and submitted to CHEKA Digital.
